FCE test
The FCE test is for those who have an upper intermediate level and can use it for daily tasks including business, study or everyday situations. The candidates who successfully pass the FCE will have a diverse and abundant vocabulary, will be able to construct an argument and be able to communicate in various situations. In addition, they will be able to show awareness of register and of the conversation style such as formality and politeness.
FCE test is recognized by over 15,000 multinational companies and universities as well as other educational institutions because it proves the candidate has the skills necessary to communicate in English at an upper intermediate level.
The exam is based on realistic tasks therefore the FCE certificate is an important asset for anyone looking to add value to their current CV or study/live abroad. Employers throughout the world recognize FCE in many industries since successful candidates have the ability to deal with routine letters and telephone enquiries and cope with meetings and negotiations.
The FCE is divided into five parts:
- Reading and Use of English (1 hour 15 minutes) See sample paper 7 parts/52 questions Shows you can deal confidently with different types of text, such as fiction, newspapers and magazines. Tests your use of English with tasks that show how well you can control your grammar and vocabulary.
- Writing (1 hour 20 minutes) See sample paper 2 parts Requires you to be able to produce two different pieces of writing, such as letters, reports, reviews and essays.
- Listening (about 40 minutes) See sample paper 4 parts/30 questions Requires you to be able to follow and understand a range of spoken materials, such as news programmes, presentations and everyday conversations.
- Speaking (14 minutes per pair of candidates) See sample paper 4 parts Tests your ability to communicate effectively in face to face situations. You will take the Speaking test with one or two other candidates.
